Emma Stone portrays the character of Bella Baxter, a female Frankenstein, in the film adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel Poor Things. The procedure of transplanting a brain into Bella’s skull takes place inside of her skull. From a nonverbal, clumsy child in an adult body, she undergoes a transformation to become the individual she is today. Early exposure to sexual behavior leads her to eventually engage in sexual activity herself. In the final stages of her journey to adulthood, Bella works as a prostitute in a brothel for a short period of time.
