SEX WORKER ROLE
Lulu in The Lulu Plays 1926
Character Is A Prostitute
Luise Rainer played the titular character in the five-act play “Lulu,” written by Frank Wedekind. Performed at Berlin’s Kammerspiele Theater in 1926.
The character of Lulu is very sexual. In addition to oozing sex appeal, she exudes an air of sexual yearning. The play’s first four acts feature Lulu marrying different men, who all die at the end. During the fifth and final act, Lulu has transformed herself into a prostitute during the late Victorian era in London. It is there that she comes face-to-face with Jack the Ripper, whom she leads on deliberately.
