Anjelica Huston Prizzi’s Honor 1986

This movie, which is based on Jim Thompson’s novel, is all about con artists, as the title of the movie suggests. Angelica Huston portrays the character of Lilly Dillon, a high-stakes thief who works as a bookmaker for the mob. However, when Lilly first came to Baltimore, she found work in a pub as a bar girl, a modern equivalent for the term “saloon girl.” It was her responsibility to act as a companion to the male customers and to coax them into purchasing more booze. If the male customers wanted “more,” then these “bar girls” could offer “more.” After some time had passed, Lilly’s employers became aware of her true capabilities, which ultimately resulted in her pursuing other endeavors that were more lucrative.
