Female owners of brothels are known as madams. Typically, these are older women who oversee the sex transactions of prostitutes. They collect a portion of the profits from every job.

When a wealthy man unexpectedly passes away, his Aunt Clara inherits all his money, valuables, property, and holdings. What does she inherit? Among the large estates that fall into her lap are a gambling den, racing greyhounds, a sleazy bar, and a brothel. Aunt Clara becomes the owner and proprietor of a brothel, employing women who work as prostitutes. The movie’s plot features Margaret Rutherford as Clara Hilton attempting to clean up these properties individually. Rutherford has said that this was her favorite role.
